Pink Beach, officially known as Pantai Merah, is one of seven pink beaches on the planet, located on Komodo Island in Indonesia. As the name tells, it's striking for its beautiful pink sand, which gives it a distinctive and picturesque appearance.
The pink hue of the sand comes from microscopic organisms called Foraminifera, which produce a red pigment on the coral reefs. When fragments of this red coral combine with the white sands of the beach, they create a soft pink tint. This process is enhanced by the presence of pieces of broken shells and calcium carbonate materials, which are naturally white and reflect the sunlight.
The beauty of Pink Beach is not just in its color, but also in its surrounding environment. The beach is part of Komodo National Park, which is a protected area and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
